The Philharmonic Society of Orange County presents piano phenom, Alexander Malofeev, who won first prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians when he was just 13 years old in 2014. Der Standard declared his debut at the Musikverein as “a world piano revolution,” and indeed Malofeev already has already achieved an impressive professional career which shows no sign of slowing down.

I’m very excited to be giving the preconcert lecture for Malofeev’s fascinating program. Variation and rearrangement lie at the heart of selections by Handel, Muffat, Purcell, Bach, Weinberg, and Liszt’s arrangement for piano of Wagner’s Tannhäuser Overture. It will be a delightful musical excursion!

The lecture is at 7pm, one hour before the concert at 8pm.
