Pre-performance Lectures: LA Opera’s “The Barber of Seville” (all performances)

October 21, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm PDT

Rossini Barber LAO

Join me for a delectable exploration of Rossini’s winning musical style in this lecture which I have crafted in the manner of a gourmet recipe. (Rossini was a renowned gourmand and arguably loved eating great food as much as he loved music!) This production of Rossini’s most popular work offers plenty of lively music, hilarious stage shenanigans, and superb singing.

The cast includes Joshua Hopkins (Figaro), Isabel Leonard (Rosina), Edgardo Rocha (Count Almaviva/Lindoro), Paolo Bordogna / Patrick Carfizzi (Dr. Bartolo), and Luca Pisaroni (Don Basilio). Louis Lohraseb, who led last year’s acclaimed Tosca production for the Los Angeles Opera, is on the podium.

I will be speaking before all SIX performances:
