A once-in-a-lifetime events! I have the honor of moderating this listening party with three distinguished—and Mahler-loving—panelists: film director Todd Field (Tár), music supervisor Lauren Mikus (Only Murders in the Building), and composer-musician David Longstreth of the band Dirty Projectors. I worked together with the LA Phil hosts to shape a playlist based on the panelists’ favorite Mahler works and recordings; amazingly, the LA Phil audio team tracked down original vinyl for almost all of these choices! Listener will have the pleasure of a true audiophile experience at the extravagant Paramour Estate. I look forward to a wonderful night of listening and discussion as we revel in Mahler’s recorded legacy and his influence on film scoring and new composition.
