I return to familiar stomping grounds—in terms of my research area—for this session of “Exploring Opera,” where I will offer an in-depth exploration of one of my fave characters: The Queen of the Night! Is she really just the typical evil woman of Disney films? Or is there more going on here? Why does Pamina seem to care so much about her in the first part of the opera? Why, if she is so powerful, is she unable even to rescue her daughter herself? And what does all that Masonic symbolism mean?  Join me to find out!
