SUMMARY:"Insights" Lecture and Interview / Pasadena Symphony
DESCRIPTION:For its second concert of the season\, the Pasadena Symphony spotlights two late Romantic favorites: Sibelius’s masterful Violin Concerto in D Minor\, featuring violinist Alexandra Conunova\, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 in E Minor. Guest conductor Jayce Ogren leads the performance. \nFor the “Insights” pre-concert talk\, Dr. Brown-Montesano will discuss the powerful contemporary resonance of the concert opener\, Valerie Coleman’s Seven O’Clock Shout\, a work that arose during the first COVID-19 lockdowns in the US. Dr. Brown-Montesano will also illuminate Tchaikovsky’s approach to orchestration in his symphonic writing and chat with conductor Maestro Ogren about his special connection with the music of Jean Sibelius. \nTwo concerts—2:00pm & 8:00pm—with the “Insights” scheduled in the hall\, an hour earlier.
