In honor of National Women’s History Month, this is a blog essay I wrote for the Colburn School newsletter. Many important news outlets had already done a good job recalling women composers. So I decided to talk about how women are fitting into the classical-music scene today, and introduce some of the fierce women in history who have shaped the Los Angeles classical-music culture: Dorothy Buffum Chandler, Ethel Leginska, Flora Laney Thornton, and Pearle Irene Odell.
