This amazing program spotlights Nico Muhly‘s new Concerto Grosso, framed by two Rachmaninoff powerhouses: Symphony No. 3 and the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. I’m delighted to have an opportunity to chat with Muhly about his new work and the process of composing this LA Phil commission. I will also reflect on the idea of “home” as related to Sergei Rachmaninoff and particularly his Symphony No. 3
