LA Phil’s Upbeat Live Lecture: Correia, Beethoven, and Strauss
May 2 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm PDT
Maestro Gustavo Dudamel leads the LA Philharmonic in a program featuring three creative artists of the Iberian Peninsula: composer Andreia Pinto Correia, beloved piano virtuoso Maria João Pires, and Miguel Cervantes, whose enduring work, Don Quixote, provided inspiration for Correia’s Cortejo (an LA Phil commission receiving its world premiere) and Strauss celebrated tone poem of the same name. LA Phil prinicipals Robert Demaine (cello) and Teng Li (violist) will give musical voice to the knight and his squire, respectively. The miraculous Pires will join the orchestra for Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 4.
Correia and Pires will join me for the Upbeat Live concert talk, which will also include an introduction to the works.
