As part of the orchestra’s outreach and education program, the LA Phil sometimes invites LA-area students to sit in on a rehearsal. For some young people, this event may well be the first time they’ve seen an orchestra in person or been in Disney Hall. For serious music students this is a chance to see professional music-making up close. And it’s my job—as facilitator, teacher and guide—to prepare students for what they’re about to hear and see.
