Don Giovanni. This infamous rake poses interesting challenges for audiences in the #MeToo era. And certainly K-12 educators are conscious of those issues as they introduce this Mozart classic to 21st century students.

Based partially on my book (Understanding the Women of Mozart’s Operas) I will be talking about the opera’s musical and dramatic structure, as well as directorial choices and reception history of Mozart’s Don. As educators, together we’ll review possible critical lenses applied to Don Giovanni (and Mozart) (and opera producers) in considering this opera’s female characters.
