Da Camera Society Podcast / Ethel Smyth

September 15

Composer Dame Ethel Smyth portrait sitting at her piano with music score open

Podcast forthcoming. Will announce when posted.

This Da Camera Society-produced podcast explores the life and music Ethel Smyth, a composer, feminist activist and writer whose massive oratorio The Prison won the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album. Born into the highly patriarchal culture of Victorian England, Smyth fought against the tide to make a name as a composer, one of the most male-centric fields of her time.
