Invited Rehearsals provide young musicians and their instructors with a rare glimpse of the Los Angeles Philharmonic as the orchestra prepares for a concert. As part of the experience, these student musicians—representing classroom instrumental ensembles from across Los Angeles County—gain first-hand insight into the rehearsal process, guidance on ways to listen to emusic, and the chance to present their own ensemble’s mission and values to the group.

I am delighted to have collaborated with the LA Phil Learning Department for many years on these joyful educational events! This year, in addition to moderating the presentations and Q&A, I also will be offering student some tips about how to listen more actively to the musical sounds they will hear in the rehearsal.
