La Jolla Music Society opens its Piano Series with internationally acclaimed artist Gabriela Montero, who will present a vivid program of Spanish and Spanish-inspired works. Among the gems of this recital program are Granados’s 8 Valses Poéticos, a pair of sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti, and a trio of works by Albéniz. My Prelude lecture will trace the Hispanic links of the program and delve more deeply into works by Spanish composers, with a special spotlight on two compositions by legendary Spanish pianist Alicia de Larrocha.
