Opera for Educators: Opera Overview
August 10 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am PDT
The kick-off seminar for LAUSD teachers and other opera-curious people! We open with an overview of the art form, and my talk will look at the three “pillars” of opera—the music, dramatic text (libretto), and stage production. In this brief introduction, we will explore the musical styles and dramatic themes from the earliest canonic opera, Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo (1607) to Adams’ Dr. Atomic (2000).
For the Opera for Educators seminars, Los Angeles Opera Connects brings together experts in music, history, languages, and more to lead participants on a scholarly exploration of the current Los Angeles Opera main-stage season—streaming live through Zoom to wherever you are. All are welcome to join and learn more about opera, and teachers get an extra bonus by earning LAUSD Salary Points.
