“Insights” Lecture and Interview / Pasadena Symphony
November 12, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm PST
For its second concert of the season, the Pasadena Symphony spotlights two late Romantic favorites: Sibelius’s masterful Violin Concerto in D Minor, featuring violinist Alexandra Conunova, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 in E Minor. Guest conductor Jayce Ogren leads the performance.
For the “Insights” pre-concert talk, Dr. Brown-Montesano will discuss the powerful contemporary resonance of the concert opener, Valerie Coleman’s Seven O’Clock Shout, a work that arose during the first COVID-19 lockdowns in the US. Dr. Brown-Montesano will also illuminate Tchaikovsky’s approach to orchestration in his symphonic writing and chat with conductor Maestro Ogren about his special connection with the music of Jean Sibelius.
Two concerts—2:00pm & 8:00pm—with the “Insights” scheduled in the hall, an hour earlier.
